LCHS will host a FAFSA completion workshop for seniors and their parent/guardians on Tuesday, January 21st from 4:30-6:30 pm in the LCHS Media Center Computer Lab. The most important financial aid application is the FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. We encourage parents and guardians to take advantage of this opportunity to receive assistance. You will need your Social Security number and FSA ID (account username and password) to login to StudentAid.gov and start the FAFSA form electronically. Thank You

The goal is 50% parent survey completion. Please take 15 minutes to complete the survey. The survey is available at https://tinyurl.com/G10ParentY4 The link has been posted to Schoology. The survey will ask for your child's school WVEIS ID number which is their 9-digit lunch number. If your child's lunch number does not contain 9-digits, please place a 0 in front of the beginning number to create a 9-digit number. Good afternoon, WV GEAR UP will be hosting a FAFSA completion workshop for seniors and their parents/guardians on January 21 from 4:30-6:30 pm in the Media Center Computer Lab. Please share with your seniors in your classes or perhaps place on your Schoology page. I have also posted to Schoology but students probably pay more attention to your class posts. Students can receive financial aid to attend career technical schools, training academies, community and technical colleges and 4-year colleges and universities. Students will never know what types of financial aid that they are eligible for unless they complete the FAFSA. Completing the FAFSA will allow them to receive a financial aid report detailing what they are eligible for in terms of a federal PELL grant, the WV Higher Education Grant, WV Invests Grant, etc. Submitting the FAFSA does not require them to attend postsecondary education, it just provides them with a understanding of how they could pay for the cost of their education after high school. Announcing a new scholarship… WVNLA announces a newly created scholarship for rising college freshmen. The George W. Longenecker Memorial Scholarship is available to rising freshmen accepted into the landscape architecture or horticulture programs at West Virginia University. Recipients will receive full tuition reimbursement for four semesters while maintaining a 3.0 GPA with full credits in either the landscape architecture or horticultural programs. The scholarship will be renewable to the student each semester so long as they are in good standing with the requirements. Applicants must have the following qualifications: West Virginia resident High school senior accepted to West Virginia University landscape architecture or horticulture programs OR any in-state resident student entering his or her first year of WVU Landscape Architecture or horticulture program GPA of 3.0 or higher Full-time student Applicant must complete a George W Longenecker Scholarship application online or by mail. By mail, please provide the following information and submit an essay stating his or her interest in landscape architecture or ornamental horticulture and why he or she feels it is important to the state of West Virginia to develop future professionals in the nursery and landscape design industry. Who was George W. Longenecker? George Longenecker dedicated a lifetime to the study and mentorship of landscape architecture. George was instrumental in developing the landscape architecture program at West Virginia University, where he was beloved by his students and fellow faculty members for his personality and knowledge of plant materials. He founded and led the effort to organize and establish the West Virginia Botanic Garden in Morgantown. Valley Health Scholarship Valley Health now accepting Applications for $17,000 in scholarships Huntington, West Virginia [December 9, 2024] – Valley Health Systems is now accepting applications for $17,000 in post-secondary scholarships encompassing the Valley Health Cokey Muth Registered Nurse and Valley Health Minority Healthcare scholarships. The Cokey Muth Registered Nurse Scholarship posthumously honors Registered Nurse and Valley Health Board Member Cokey Muth. This scholarship offers one award of up to $2,000 to applicants enrolled or accepted into a registered nurse program and who have received care from a Valley Health provider within the past 24 months. The Valley Health Minority Healthcare scholarships offer three up to $5,000 awards to individuals pursuing careers in medicine, health sciences, or health administration. This is the fourth year of the scholarship. Special consideration is given to those who have seen a Valley Health provider in the last 24 months. “We are committed to nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders at Valley Health Systems. This message is for LCHS Seniors and Parent/Guardians: There will be a Federal Student Aid ID workshop for seniors and their parent/guardians on Wednesday, December 11, from 2 to 5pm at LCHS in the Southern WV CTC computer lab. Both Seniors and a parent will need to create an FSA ID in order to access federal student aid websites and complete the FAFSA form online. This message is for anyone who picks up students at LCHS at dismissal time. This is a general reminder about the pickup procedure at our school. Please allow buses the right-of- way when getting ready to leave campus. Most all our buses leave at the same time when they depart from school. If you see a bus or group of buses heading your way on the road, please wait until all buses pass before pulling onto the road. If you happen to be in front of a bus, do not stop to let other motorists on the road. This has caused congestion in our school parking lot and made it difficult for some buses to stay on schedule. Again, please do not pull out in front of buses at dismissal time. Thank you.

Dear Parents and guardians of 10th grade students. We will be holding an interest meeting for those of you who may have students who are interested in participating in our Early College Academy. This parent meeting will take place at 5 PM today in the LCHS Media Center. This is an informational meeting only. Good Afternoon. On Tuesday, October 22nd , all 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT. Due to this testing , All other students will work on assignments, virtually, from home. Assignments will be available through Schoology. Again, tomorrow October 22nd all 11th grade students will report to school for testing. All 9th, 10th and 12th grade students will be working virtually from home. Thank you and have a great day.

Good morning! LCHS administration has diligently investigated rumors from social media about a possible threat. Upon on investigation, there were no substantial findings. In abundance of caution, we have 3 police agencies available and on campus for the remainder of the school day. Thank you!
